Took a cheap 30 min train from Porto for a day on the beach as the weather touching 30c. Really enjoyed the beach and cooling off in the sea including messing about in the breakers which was exhilarating. The water did become calmer later ...its more suitable for youngsters when sea calms. The arrangements 're umbrellas and loungers is a bit scratchy (this is portugal) but I suggest you settle in to any unoccupied loungers near a bar ...they may or may not (as in our case) come along and ask you pay. If you are not on a tight budget eat at the seafront Aquario Marisquiera restaurant...fabulous.

Have just spent some time by the ocean at Espinho. Nice walk along the promenade, stunning views of the waves hitting the beach. Must be a good place to visit in high season.

In this area of Portugal the wind is the king of the beaches. The "Espinho" beach has an excellent area of sand but the wind and cold water are predominant throughout almost the whole year.

The beaches by Espinho including the areas just north and south of the town is fantastic to visit - lots of possibilities of enjoying the sometimes very wild nature of the Atlantic Ocean - watching the tides, the thundering waves of the high tide comng in, the cliffs, but also the nice sandy beaches in between - the boardwalk running along the coast with possibilties of jogging, cycling, walking and enjoy nature - but also to enjoy the life in the town at the restaurants just by the sea.
Enjoy the fresh fish served by the allways very hospitable Portugueese. A nice area that you want to return to.
We stayed at Hotel Solverde Spa & Wellness ***** - a place that I can highly recommend

The walk along the boardwalk of this beach is incredible. Our daily routine while on vacation was to take a nice long walk along the boardwalk, stop for breakfast and then continue.

Lots of restaurants along the boardwalk, ocean view is great. Plenty of beach space that isn't too busy. Very Rocky though but sand is soft. Not the nicest beach I've seen but still nice for a beach day if in the area.

A beach that is patrolled and in the summer is always full of people. The water is surprising cold. In fact painfully so, but sitting on the beach and watching the world go by is a great way to pass the time.

The sandy beach at Espinho is a veritable paradise for surfing and there are Surf schools available. The boardwalk extends in both directions and is a fascinating journey through living dunes with their unique plants and insects. A walk to Valadares along the boardwalk offers charming cafés and a small aquarium and museum
