I had not heard of Guimaraes before. It is not really a well known place. At least not yet. I was really happy to discover this beautiful City. The Old Town is picturesque and charming and as another reviewer mentionned, one should stay overnight to get a good feel of the place,

Stay overnight - you won’t get a feel for the town unless you do. Tourists come by 10am & leave by 5pm. After that you will be with the locals. We absolutely loved the feel of the town after the tourists departed for the day. We stayed here three nights & went to Braga by bus
