Erected in the 14th century to commemorate the victory in the battle of Salado, this Gothic style sculpted monument sits well in Largo da Oliviera (Olive tree square) as if it was meant to be there. I saw it under heavy falling rain but it was nevertheless impressive.

There are several restaurants there, all portuguese and a nice place for lunch. sitting in the sun with some wine was a lovely way to spend the afternoon and the church was also interesting.

Not sure what was the practical use o this structure, but for sure it is a magnificent decoration for the old square and a lovely spot for pictures.
