Sao Bento train station is a regular in all the ratings of the most beautiful stations in the world. Along with New York Central Station, Kanazawa Japan, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai, Antwerp and others. However, São Bento is unique. Built in 1916 on the site of the old Benedictine monastery of San Bento de Ave Maria (hence the name) will not make much impression from the outside. Architect Jose Marcus de Silva built the building in the style of solid French neoclassicism. There are dozens of such stations in Europe. Everything is important inside. São Bento is decorated with Azulejo ceramic tiles. Artist Jorge Colaço created the tile pattern for 10 years. Today, the most beautiful panels of azuleju are the main "feature" of São Bento. The tile interior and the beautiful old exterior just bring you back to simpler times. Porto has an amazing architecture scene and this station is a big part of it, just mesmerizing!

I arrived at this station on the train from Lisbon and although it may seem like just a station it is clear that this is also a historic building. The tiles in the entrance hall are amazing with such detail, makng this far more than just a train station. This is a tourist attraction in its own right.…
