When travelling with my family, we seek out local markets to sample and buy fresh produce. Looking for the Bolhao Market required some detective work, however, because the old historic building was under construction and couldn't be entered. We saw no signs for an alternate…
The market was quite expensive. Felt like tourist trap. Stalls selling mostly same items if you are looking fir canned fish and cheese...we went elsewhere after comparing prices at other local speciality shops
It is a pity that it is not finished yet, it will be a big project and I can see that it will be fantastic, from the rest I will wait to see how everything works there inside
But in the meantime you can still by good produce, hams, cheese...enjoy a sandwich and a glass of sangria..the original will be MUCH bettter once the remodeling is over..
Excellent market. Clean modern and visually appealing. Stop off for a drink or something to eat - it a "must do". Fabulous lunch of traditional Portuguese tripe dish along with a bottel of Mateus rosé - 16 euro for both of us. Will definitely return.
