I've visited many food markets over the world and they were all nicer than this one. It needed a good amount of renovation and they could really make it a tourist attraction if they spruced up the place. Saying that the food looked good quality...More

A visit to this market is well worth the walk. As you enter there are a number of stalls selling pottery, linen, leather and nik naks at reasonable prices. Further through there are fish and meat sellers, fruit and veg stalls, chilli, garlic and olive...More

Fantastic market a feast for the eyes with beautiful food everywhere. Lots of proud stall owners who are happy to discuss their produce. Also the cheapest place to buy tacky souvenirs. Will be such a shame that it will be closed for many years for...More

Must drop in even if it's just to see the historical building the markets are housed in. It takes up the whole block. Fresh fruit, flowers, seafood, meat, wine and souvenirs available. We had fun collecting fresh produce for a few home cooked meals, BBQ...More

Middle sized market with lots of food and souvenirs. Some things are cheaper and some are more expensive then elsewhere. You don't have to arrive in the morning, because it stays open later.

I came to this market as a child in the 70s and it was incredible. Today, it's a bit sad. A huge sprawling indoor market about half full, erratic opening hours and frankly not very clean inside. What they need to do is copy what...More

Fabulous market...we were looking for some ingredients for a bar snack we'd been enjoying (Salgados = roasted corn, peanuts and banana chips...ask for it with your next cerveja!),and found everything here ...plus tremocos, spices and other snacks for the road. Also noticed a wide variety...More

The market is pretty down at heel but still well worth a visit. It would be nice to think they will refurbish the existing market rather than tear it down and start again. It's a tourist products meets fresh produce sort of place. Everything from...More
