The church and bell tower were built for the brotherhood of clerics and for a long time served as a landmark for ships entering the harbor, because the 76-meter tower is still the tallest building in Porto. The work continued under the direction of the Italian architect Niccolo Nazoni from 1754 to 1763. Nicolau Nasoni was buried in the crypt of the Clérigos Church. However, no one knows the exact place of burial. To climb the tower or not is a question, as Hamlet said. And it's not about 5 € (other sites are usually free). And not in the 222 steps up. Wonderful. Lots of stairs but a great result in the end. Lovely view. Great architecture. Do recomend to visit it.
