The focal point of the Placa da Libertad Square is the large bronze statue of the king, majestically mounted on his horse. The monument’s placement in the large open square, flanked by beautiful old buildings is worth seeing.

Nice plaza to stroll by and enjoy a coffee or a drink outside. There is a fountain close by. I saw photos of a working fountain, not working when we went.

The statue is facing Intercontinental Hotel, Porto. I passed by it on my way down hill and there are bus stops nearby.

All the avenue and square is amazingly charming, but this monument to an important king of Portugal makes it even more beautiful and meaningful.

You will see this as you visit the Avenida dos Aliados. Have a look as you pass by but not worth making a special visit for.
