In the nineteenth century Foz was a seaside resort where Brits and well-heeled Porto residents went on holiday. Visitors stay here for its beaches and seaside indoor/outdoor eateries. If it is not beach weather, simply stroll along the Avenida do Brasil with its view of the Atlantic. Nearby is the Queijo Fort, the Passeio Alegre Fountain, the Felgueiras lighthouse, the Molhe Breakwater and Old Foz (a quainter part of the district). The River Douro is calm and tidal with the Atlantic Ocean on the other side of the sea walls. This is a dramatic viewing place as the water crashes down on the breakwater rocks. This is a lovely promenade in Porto. You can walk, enjoy the sun, listen to the waves...excellent place only about 20 min walk from the town centre. On the seaside, there are also many varieties of large rocks of geological value.

20 minutes from the town. The Atlantic coast - beach (fine gravel) and ocean breakers. Some walk through the tram stop, through the gardens. There is a posh toilet - tilework etc, but it was filthy with no paper etc (October 2019) so refused to pay. A couple of small cafes; there are restaurants further round into town. If the tram ios full, take 500 bus…
