Building itself is still under renovations but is interesting and really jumps out at you. The gardens are very pretty and must be stunning when in full bloom. July/August probably not best time to visit with the heat.
Don't expect too much of the gardens themselves, I was quite underwhelmed. They do however offer nice shade away from the summer heat and amazing views of the river/Gaia. There's lots of nice quiet spots, different levels and peacocks.

This gorgeous park offers stunning views of the river and the city of Porto. The gardens are beautiful and so well maintained. There are even peacocks strolling around. Truly a wonderful place to stroll, get lost and enjoy nature within the city.

Since, you have to work your way down by Palacio de CristalI, it is a bit impractical. You can find though lots of parking space near the entrance to the garden (on top), and then you'd need to come back to the car, or park it at the bottom. Anyway, if you plan to go by a car, prepare for +2hrs hike.
