The moment we first eyed the Chapel of St George atop Mount Lycabettus (from atop the Acropolis), we added it to the agenda for our Athens visit. I was intrigued as to why a chapel would be built at this altitude, when a fort would be more conforming for a venue with this vantage point. We climbed 900 feet to... More

There is some hiking to go in top of the hill( Mt. Lycabettus) to see the chapel...you can take a cab , hike and just go uphill little bit to the cable car. The chapel is small but beautiful with great artifacts and the view of Athene is amazing ,360 degree view of the whole Athens, great for picture taking.... More

The Chapel of St George the Dragon Slayer has a very long history. The chapel is still in service as a place to mediate and maybe attend services, and was open to tour and take pictures, I really enjoyed it. But the top of this mountain is most well known for its fantastic view of the city of Athens. It... More

The Mount Lycabettus Church . St Georges is a small Chappell that you will admire after the climb to the top. Worth a blessed prayer overlooking the whole Athens . A+++

Sitting atop Mount Lycabettus, you will not miss the chapel as it is where most tourist will be to see the amazing view of Athens. It is quaint little chapel, and definitely not something you will expect to see sitting on top of a mountain which the surroundings has been turned to a tourist attraction - which includes cafes and... Father and Son duo, hired a cab to the foot of the 264 Mtrs. high Mount Lycabettus, walked up the reasonably comfortable sloping ramp with a few steps here and there, one can not help clicking pictures from every level, be it a professional or a smartphone user and there one arrives at two restaurant levels and finally, at the... At the top of Mount Lycabettus there is a little white traditional chapel, not something you would expect to see so high up. Quite quaint, needs funding to undertake repairs so you can support by way of donation. We lit a candle for a loved one being buried back home as way of remembrance. Worth a look even if you... Easiest to take team (telerife) up, but a weird flashing light little cable car in tunnel, theen walked down, easy gentle sloping paved path. Chapel on top an Orthodox charming tribut to dragon-slayer St George. Sweet restaurant, coffee options, views beyond spectacular. Great place to write postcards and savor last moments in Athens. Albanian waiter particularly gracious.

A really Quaint Church at the top of Mount Lycabettus which has really spectacular views over Athens proper ! Apart from the obligatory Graffiti the site is worth the steep walk up through the Park. Wish I'd known about the Funicular before though ! The Chapel is very small but is full of items extolling St George and that pesky... More

You can use the stairs through the trees or just the road but I highly recommend the way through nature if you can. The climb up there is very fun and many areas are a good spot to take pictures. Moreover, the church itself is amazing. There was also a restaurant up there. In addition, the view is the most... More
