This area is wonderful for walking shopping eating and taking in a completely different part of Athens. The upscale shops welcomed us and we thoroughly enjoyed the polite customer service at each and every boutique. Housed in buildings that epitomized the past, the indoor displays of high-end fashion felt like Milan or Paris. We ate at an unassuming outdoor cafe... More

It's probably one of the highest class spots in Athens. Situated in the center, it's accessible by foot or public transportation. You can do a lot of shopping, rather expensive and get a nce entertainment as well. There's a touch of high class, that you can see around and a really must do, is a coffee at some cafe on... More

Check out the roadside cafes. They bake their own breads! One can sit for hours and watch the traffic go by. The food is excellent and the people are warm. Don't miss this

Nothing special, no reason for any tourist to visit it. There's a small common and dirty square with 5 benches. Heavy traffic around, 2-3 cafe with iron chairs and small round tables confined with each other. Nothing interesting to see around, only some shoe or jewelry shops.

A lively neighbourhood in the center of Athens. Here you could find fancy shops, restaurants and cafes..... you could see real Athens (not the touristic one)... Many bars for the famous Greek night life

Kolonaki is one of the biggest tourist spots in Athens, filled with restaurants, shops, street vendors and accessible by train, bus and car. A great place to buy souvenirs or find a gift for that special someone, vendors and shops are open to a little haggling.

A good location for shopping; you can find lots of shops for local and international brands. However, based on reviews I read it was less than expectation

I've been here several times in the last 25 years. Unfortunately this last visit was disappointing. This used to be a nice and exclusive area. It may still be, however, the uncollected trash in the sidewalks (perhaps from workers on strike?) and the graffitti on just about everything was hard not to notice. If you're touring the area in a... More

Staying in Omonia

Neighbourhood Profile
Omonia Square is as plain in appearance as Syntagma is grand. Surrounded largely by functional blocks from the 1950s and 60s and no longer boasting its underground stalls, the square is now mostly frequented by immigrants and bargain shoppers. The most rewarding area to explore is to the south. Set off down Athinas Street, with the Acropolis gradually coming into focus in the distance, and you will get a sense of old commercial Athens, especially at the picturesque meat, fish and vegetable markets some way beyond the City Hall. The blocks to the west of Athinas are home to many Chinese and South Asian traders, adding a multicultural atmosphere to what was until the late 1990s a very homogenous society.
