I had the chance to see the work in progress, during the construction period of this beautiful sport center, in view of and meant for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. I had the pleasure to be one of the thousand volunteers during the Games and I was serving first in the Tennis Ceter and after in the main Stadium. What... More

You have to marvel at the sheer colossal scale of dereliction that greets you as you walk from the station across the silently decaying remains of the 2004 Olympic site. Figures whirl round in your mind as you try some initial calculations as to how much this gigantic folly has cost. Then you give up as your brain can't do... More

It would be so nice area, but it's in horrible condition in most of the areas and installments. This could be the pearl of Athens for any outdoor event or activity, or maybe markets, street food events etc. There is so much space.

The Olympic Athletic Center of Athens (OAKA ),held the summer Olympic games in 2004 in Athens. It is very beautiful place, but unfortunately there is,no capable taking care of this monument. You can find for example broken lamps, garbage. But I suggest you to visit this beautiful stadium, you won't be disappointed.

Greece is where the Olympic games began in the 11th century BC said to be a festival dedicated to the god Zeus. The Olympic stadium of 2004 was originally built in early 1980s for the European Olympic championships and was remodeled by famous architect Santiago Calatrava for 2004. It can seat around 70,000 and is now home to the major... More

It's such a shame that an event such as the olympics is merely just a skeleton of the past now in Athens. The complex as you can see clearly from the train ride in is simple just abandoned. We didn't visit properly but the idea of seeing it in no glory at all wasn't appealing.

Beautiful place, certainly worth a visit, hard to believe it was only 12 years ago it was home to the Olympics. Weeds everywhere, buildings generally wasting away. We had a good look through the windows at the Veledrome, still looks brand new. The entire site will more than likely have to be demolished in the near future.

I try to visit Olympic stadiums all over the world. They are usually full of life and always have some entertainment. They have food stalls and coffee shops. In Athens, Am very sad to say that this 12 year old stadium will probably collapse soon due to poor/no maintenance and no use. Some people were using the grounds to cycle... More
