I've utilized the metro numerous times throughout my stay in Athens. The stations are fairly easy to navigate with good signage. Timetables and estimated trail arrival information are posted on automated screens at each platform. The ticket vending machines are easy to use. Rechargeable, multi-day...More
I am obliged to share my experience with this particular place in Athens. Beware!

My review relates to the way the Athens metro serves the Eleftherios Venizelos airport.
A taxi ride for 2 from El Vanizelos to the centre of Athens costs eur35 and takes 35min.
The metro costs eur20 and takes 60 minutes. Trains run every 30 !!!!!...More
You have to change platforms/trains to/from airport to town on M3 line.
It's here where I believe I experienced a " near miss". I was going up escalator when I felt quite distinctly some fingers in my cargo short pockets, so I glance back and...More
The Athens metro is on time and efficient, can be crowded at times but is good value at €9 for a five day pass. If you are travelling from the airport then the fee is €10 each way, tickets are available from the many automated...More

80% of ticket machines are out of order, creating long queues and missed trains at each station we used. Always look for alternative travel options - I am aware of the multiple day passes but you can’t use these for the airport!

We didn't have a car in Athens but there are plenty of garages to park near the centre but they are expensive, approx EUR 6 - 12 but only for up to 2 hours. If you are staying in the suburbs I would recommend you check online with your hotel/apartment for local parking fees.
For sure they will be cheaper than parking in the centre.
Good luck :)
