A great way to spend an hour or so. A little lacking in information about the history of the place but definitely worth a visit. The views are wonderful!

It is supposedly the largest castle built by the Venetian. It is quite a scramble getting right round it all. It was very interesting especially the timed entry lock on the toilet doors! I have never seen one like it.

Great views over Rethymno and overlooking the sea. Well maintained and preserved. English pamphlet explaining the history.

This is worth the 4 euro entré price. Great view both over the town and the water. The walk up is not that hard. You can also buy water, coffee and juice. A nice clean toilet is also available.

It takes a couple of hours to visit. At the entrance a leaflet with explanations. Beautiful to see how life was organised under the Venetians rule .

We were a bit disappointed. We were given a simple map, with not much information on it so we walked around guessing we were looking at the right thing. We had to insert coins to use the toilets, not very nice as we didn't have the right change but did have children in need of a loo!

Another great piece of Greek history but little has been done to restore the sight. If you are going to charge a fee on entrance it would be good to see something has been done over time. Little has been restored there are cannons just lying around weeds growing over them, and some very unsafe spots.

The fortress is a great place to walk, explore and discover. The site is easily accessed, although it is uphill and on stones so could be ticky for disabled travellers. however inside there is a pathway to access the different buildings in side. The mosque is fabulous and there are great views across the town and sea. in spring the... More

I was amazed at the size and you could sense the history of the place. It's sad to see all renovations coming to a halt due to the economic situation.

A real landmark of the town of Rethymnon right at the edge of the old town. If you like history and castles, it is there for you.
