The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Indre By (Inner City)
This is the heart of old town Copenhagen, with its blend of charming old buildings and bold new architecture, broad avenues and tiny streets as well as picturesque canals and a modern harbor. The inner city is home to the Royal Danish Theatre, which consists of three buildings, two of which are new and situated on the harbor front. The streets, squares and venues of the inner city and its surrounding neighborhoods, are alive all year round with everything from jazz festivals to outdoor ice skating rinks and parachuting at the lakes right in the center of the city. This compact area boasts beautiful old castles, tranquil parks, and bustling squares where you can always find a bench to stretch out your legs whenever you need a break.

- dar268Greater London, United Kingdom183 contributionsFabulous guided tourFabulous guided tour of the theatre. We actually booked by mistake as we meant to do a tour of the Opera House (they are booked through the same website and the tours run at the same time so be careful!). However it all worked out brilliantly as the tour was amazing, primarily due to our tour guide, Nana, who was full of energy and passion, everything a tour guide should be. The royal box was a particular highlight. Thank you!Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten April 24, 2024
- pragmaticmanLondon, United Kingdom16 contributionsLively and very informative guided tourSuch a great tour (in English). Nana led the tour with warmth and humour, giving lots of information about the backstage life of performers, stage crew, and costumiers. If you’re interested in what goes on behind the scenes of productions/ballets then this tour is definitely for you.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten April 25, 2024

People working for this theater are horrible.
I went to the theater for the show Ragnarok but for a foreigner the address was not clear at all, small and far away for the title KGL theater.
I went to the theater in central Copenhague but the show was In a wood
no time to go there it took 1 h 15 mn.
I ask to be refund they said NO
I ask for a new date they said NO I had to pay again
This behaviour with foreigner Guest and shamefull, no empathie at all...
I will tell all my friend and relations about this huge problem I face...

This is the old Theater set in the very center of CPH, right on one of the main squares - Kongens Nytorv. It's very convenient to visit, as it's very close to pedestrian Stroget street and Nyhavn.
Royal Danish Theater is an imposing Neo classic building dating back to second half of 19 c. It's beautifully decorated with two famous Danish poets statues in front.

We did this tour in English yesterday and I can't recommend it enough. The gentleman who took us round was an ex ballet dancer who was friendly, witty and full of info and insider knowledge. The theatre building is amazing. We got to see in the Royal box and visit back stage and the rehearsal rooms but the highlight for me was the costume department - Wow!

Beautiful building located in a busy area of the city. Two bronze statues of well-known playwrights stand out outside. Its construction began in 1748 at the initiative of King Frederick V. You can see everything from dramatic artwork, to dance shows, listen to large orchestras or enjoy an opera. We only saw its imposing facade, it is worth coming to know it.

Great place with huge statues outside that I took photos. A lot of people passing by and it's near to the landmarks of the city.

Besides seeing a production here, take the tour during the daytime. You get the opportunity to step in the royal box, go to the wardrobe room where they build the costumes and stand on the stage. It was incredible. Very affordable and one of the highlights of my trip!

The night before I left Copenhagen, I was by myself and thought what to do?
I went to the theater and got tickets for a classic ballet for 6 Euros (cheapest seat plus student discount), just before the ticket office closed. (It took place at the old stage)
I can only recommend to do this, as going out in Copenhagen is really expensive, this is a great alternative.

The theatre is royal but lack the practicality of modern theatre. We were lucky enough to get on the 5th front row in front of the stage to see the Nutcracker ballet - but the seatings are all at equal height, so we fail to see some of show - seems to be better to pay less to sit up high. Other than that, it's a normal theatre like most in Europe, nothing special.

I would like to do a guided tour and I see there are two options: the Opera House at 15.00 and the Old Stage at 15.30. Unfortunately, there is no way to join both, so I have to choose. Which one would you recommend?

I wanted to attend the free brunch ballet which happens on afternoons.
1. What time does it start and what is the duration?
2. How do I book a slot?

Which website did you use to purchase tickets online for the ballet in Copenhagen? I've seen all their theater websites... none gives me an option to purchase two tickets.
Your help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Abel
