Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art is the house of the artists and shows...

Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art is the house of the artists and shows exhibitions that are produced, initiated or chosen by artists. Den Frie is especially focused on contemporary artistic communities, collective exhibitions, artists associations and experimental groups and networks. The house is built by artists for artists and today strives to make an interesting and varied exhibition programme, that challenges the exceptional architecture of the building. 10 exhibitions are shown each year, most of them group exhibitions. Apart from those, soloexhibitions with either younger, promising artists or artists, that have made important contributions to art history are presented.

They had a nice exhibition about skin colour and it was interesting but it only takes about 10-15 mins to walk through the 5/6 rooms and there wasn't enough in each room to hold your attention. Still for the admission price I felt it was ok. 😊

I have visited Den Frie many times during the past years. The art is excellent and presented in a building that seems to amplify the natural light. The building is built very close to the original old Osterport entrance into Copenhagen. People have rightly observed that the building resembles the art building in Vienna with a double similarity to Vienna... More

Honestly 60 dkk for this piece is a bit too much. It takes exactly 10 minutes to look at the whole place, all I saw was some things scattered on the floor and then a 10 minute movie being screened over and over again. I am an art student and a designer by education and I still found this quite... More

I liked Den Frie, but if you don't usually appreciate modern art, this is not the place for you. I felt like it was a bit expensive for how small it was, but I did enjoy what was on display.

I love art and galleries, and modern art, but this, it was a joke, I don't know if we were just unfortunate with the current exhibition but I felt like we had wondered into the back room of a store and there was a collection of various discarded items left behind. Ridiculous, I would not have called it art. Three... More

We heard somebody talking about this museum in the train. As the location just across the Østerport station, we decided to visit it. Beautiful place, big space for exposition. It is a "must" for one who likes modern art.

Great place. Set up by artists over a hundred years ago and still going strong. Superb building and high calibre shows. Right next to Osterport station so easy to get there. Good selection of books.

Visited this place for the first time recently. Quite a remarkable building near Østerport station. I found the building quite interesting - outside as well as inside. The exhibitions inside was of a more experimenting nature and I think some people may feel quite disappointed. I thought it was ok, but that the quality varied a lot. Maybe because of... More
