This hippy enclave is an alternative community unto itself, with local handicrafts and a disproportionate number of vegetarians, artists and young people. Go for a walk around the lake or check out one of the watering holes. Best to visit during the day.

whilst we were advised by the hotel not to visit Christiana, we still went. Its a previous army base now run by what can only be described as current day hippies. They have their own rules and laws, and are very relaxed on cannabis being...More

We are a family of four adults. We were told to experience Christiania's quirkiness so had a nice walk around the area during the day. There's a beautiful lake and stage area which I'm sure are a great experience in the summer months. We went...More

I thought this was going to be a place that would inspire people to be different but it was like looking at a festival ground after a festival... dirty, messy.. unkept.... this can be missed.. and sadly disappointed..

I spent several hours just walking around and taking in the inspiring atmosphere. There were green parks where people were playing guitar or smoking and having a good time. There were a few places to eat - including a lovely vegetarian restaurant. In some areas...More

There's nothing much here frankly, apart from some tatty stalls and dope shops. If you like watching people stoning away and think it's ever so cool buying marijuana openly, then come here. It was a nothing place, covered in graffiti and populated by rather boring...More

Looking back, I don't know why I visited Christiania. I felt so out of place while walking the dusty, kinda creepy pathways. I did not feel unwelcomed, it was just not a place for me.

Surreal! We came across the Science and cocktails group and went in to listen to their lecture that evening, worth a visit if you like TED talks. Had dinner at Spiseloppen and wandered into a lovely craft shop, very high quality goods. It was probably...More

Came across this wonderful hippie spot completely by accident. I'm sure it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's so different it's well worth a visit. And a very short walk to Copenhagen Street Food, where you can have great food in a wonderful atmosphere.

Just across one of the many bridges from Indre By,
you’ll find Christianshavn. An eclectic area with old
brick lanes, houses dating back to the 16th century,
and canals which are home to many boats and ships,
some of which has been turned into restaurants or even
serve as fully furnished homes. The best known
attraction in Chistianshavn is Christiania, a “free
town” of residents who squat on a former military

I guess you have to accept it for what it is. It's a community and home to many people who enjoy this way of life. Personally I wouldn't choose to live there myself as myself and my family have different needs but I can... More
