We saw the changing of the palace guards at Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen purely by chance. The palace basically surrounds a large courtyard, the guards are positioned outside the front doors of the four main palace buildings. The changing of the guards was good, but...More

It’s a great experience to stand in this square and watch the change of her Majesty’s Guard. However, if you’ve ever seen this change of guard in black and red in the UK, then this might not be that exciting.

But not for everyone I wouldn’t have thought. My husband used to be a guard in the UK so wanted to see Changing of the Guard Denmark style. We enjoyed it for that reason. I understand there is an accompanying marching band when the queen...More

The Changing of the Guard at the Danish Royal Palace is a simple affair. There isn’t a lot of pomp and circumstance and basically one set of guards enters and another set leaves, with a lot of standing at attention in between.
