St. Aleksander Nevsky Church

We were only able to view from outside as it was closed when we went, but it's a stunning piece of architecture. The Eastern Orthodox style stands out amongst the churches of Copenhagen. It's en route from the Design Museum to the Marble Church.

Why is this church not listed on any Copenhagen tourist map as superb?

This church is beautiful, with its gold domes shimmering in the sun, and is so different from all the other churches in Copenhagen, as it is Russian Orthodox. And yet it does not appear on tourist maps, and we only came across it by chance....More

Really pretty church

Wee bit of Russia

Want to see a bit of Russia but can't get a visa to do so? This church is straight out of Russian architecture. Its right past the dome cathedral so make sure you're looking up as you walk or you'll miss it.

Contrasting architecture

Compared t all the other churches around this has the very different orthodox style and architecture and thus stands out as a big contrast. Never the less the golden domes stand out and if you catch them on a sunny day they will really shine...More

Careful with those Golden Onion Domes!

I was so mesmerized by those golden onion domes such that when I took a picture of them, I didn't notice that the couple beside me who also seemed to be taking pictures of the domes were actually stealing my wallet! I noticed them over...More

Shining golden domes

The only Russian Orthodox church in the city was built in 1883 and dedicated to the Russian patron saint Alexander Nevsky, which statue stands in a niche above the church bells. It is located very close to the Marble Church and well worth the visit.

Little bit of Russia

This Russian Orthodox church is only a few yards away from the Marble Church. The façade is dominated by three gilded onion domes and lovely diaper brickwork. Unfortunately, it was closed when we visited.
