Yes, it is quite possible to do this. Take an S- train Line E to Hillerod...About a 45 minute trip. You won't need to catch a bus. You will walk through town to the Castle. You'll walk past a number of nice shops and restaurants. Its about a mile. You can easily see the castle. There's a boat to ferry you across the lake or you can walk. I enjoy the walk, so I walk. It's well worth spending the day. If you have time, explore the town of Hillerod also. Safe travels!
