It's a nice Obelisk/monument but nothing special. Check it out and read the history when you are in the Market, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go see it, just if you are in the area.

“The stone of the empress” , The monument designed by Carl Ludvig Engel, is the oldest public monument in Helsinki. A granite obelisk with a golden statue of two headed eagle was erected in honour of the Empress Alexandra’s first visit to Helsinki in 1833.

This monument is right beside the harbour and is around 30’ high. The stone itself lies at the top of a needle and comprises of a gold ball on which a gold double headed large winged vulture like bird sits.

This is a lovely sculpture, located on top of an obelisk in the middle of the market.
Its golden color is particularly beautiful at dusk.

While walking around Market Square, I saw a man taking a picture of this narrow, tall statue. I also took some pictures of this statue, not knowing what it is for.
Thanks to some TA reviewers here, I learned about its purpose/significance.

The obelisk with a gilded two headed eagle on top commemorates the first visit of Empress Alexandra of Russia to the Grand Duchy of Finland in June 1833. On the back ground stands the Swedish Embassy combining our two past monarchs in the same picture. Nowadays artisans selling handicrafts have their stalls around the monument.

Not much to say about this one, it’s a statue situated in the Market Square. Nothing special about it.

To commemorate her first visit to the Finnish Grand Duchy as Finland was called under the Russian rule a granite obelisk with a gilded two headed eagle was erected in honour of the Empress Alexandra. The descriptions were written in Finnish and Latin which was exceptional as the official languages were Russian and Swedish. After the Revolution in 1917 the monument was partially demolished and re-erected only in 1971.

Observed the monument as we walked towards the outdoor market. And that is about it all really. Nice enough.
