A cathedral with it's famous stairs always (like literally) crowded with tourists. Looks great on rainy days, when all those tourists are holding colourful umbrellas.

Impressive building in the center city skyline, however, inside is very plain and stark. No need to go inside.

I liked it, specially the domes and white colours, the inside is awful...the luteran churches are so minimal...But the shape, proportion and location is nice.

The exterior is impressive. The interior is relatively bland. Compared to many other European churches, this one is not my favorite, although the view from the front steps is spectacular!

This is very impressive, we spotted it from our boat as we were approaching the port. It's quite imposing with it's size and all the steps up to it's entrance. It's definitely a cathedral of two sides the inside and the outside, after the grandeur of the outside, it has a very modest style inside. You can see people are... More

When in Helsinki you really can't miss this church. It stands stately at the top of a steep set of stairs in the government square. It's beautiful on the outside, however, very simplistic inside. It's a Lutheran Church, so I wouldn't expect the gilded magnificence that one finds in a Russian or Greek Orthodox Church. Actually, the simplicity is quite... More

As any Lutheran church, the interior decoration is not as impressive as catholic churches, but the size and the architecture are really impressive, very nice to visit

It is free and place in a prominent spot. 20 minutes max for this one. Being a Lutheran cathedral, it does not have the detail of the Catholic ones.

Obviously this is a staple of Helsinki, and seems like a must do. Definitely check it out from the square and steps, but don't waste you time going inside. Very plan and small for what you would expect.

Not the fully austere Protestant church, but not elaborately baroque either. The exterior with its blue domes surmounted with gilded crosses, as well as its setting high above the square behind steep steps, tricks you into expecting something more elaborate. It is rather majestic, but not one of the great pieces of art of this world (or this city).
