The history of the statue dates back to the times when the prominent Finnish artists used to spend long evenings at restaurant Kämp (in Northen Esplanade) in the early 1900's. The statue still has an important mission as the centre of the first of... More

You won't miss this statue especially if you are in Market square , or, in front of city Hall of Helsinki. Sculptured in 1906 in Paris but was present at this location in 1908.

It is an interesting statue close to the waterfront and Esplandi, the market area. It is a bronze depicting a mermaid emerging from the water with four fish at her feet. It was established in 1908 and has become popular with students at graduation. This is the best part of Helsinki with its fancy and expensive shops and cafes.

I was told that all Finnish people would come here on a few special occasions e.g. on your graduation. The most incredible of all is to swim naked in this foundation on the victory of the ice hockey team, why?

This is a beautiful statue and fountain near the waterfront. This mermaid was sculpted by a famous French sculptor and she is depicted with feet like a human woman. Not well accepted at first she is now recognized as the most beautiful piece of sculpture in Helsinki. She is depicted commanding 4 fish spouting water at her feet with sea... More

Nice place to visit. Close to Suomenlina ferry, market square and Esplanada. In summer there are street musicians.

Students visit this sculpture and celebrate it each year. In between, it stands near Market Square with water fountain in action.
