I have to admit that I went to this place with very low expectations just to humour the rest of my travelling party. I spent a solid two hours and could have easily spent another two. Absolutely amazing information and exhibits. I can't believe all the things that were created in Finland that have been become part of our every... More

Having had our interest in Finnish Design wettedby the Arno Aalto exhibit at the main Art Gallery, we did want to visit the Design Museum. On foot it is not the easiest place to find - although you do get to see lots of Art Nouveau buildings on the way. Eventually we found the Architectural Museum and purchased a dual... More

Cafe and shop in the museum and lockers and coat hooks available. 3 floors of exhibits. Free as part of Helsinki Card. Focus, obviously, on Finnish design. Diverse range of exhibits; 100 years of Finnish design, celebrating the centenary of the Finnish nation, was particularly good.

The museum is located in the design district and an easy walk from the center. It is housed in an old building and has changing exhibitions over its three floors. Old design pieces, next modern, every day items next to extravagant pieces. Stroll around and do pop in the museum shop for some selected design items or some food.

Not too big museum for learning something about the finnish design. Very interesting are the differnet exhibitions of various themes or persons. Nice museum shop to buy design things.

It's a very good place to visit. You can use your camera and tripod. There are lockers at the entrance. The things that are exposed are really interesting. The work made by the artists is strange but worth having a look. Some of this work actually inspired me some pictures. I have never visited a place like this one before... More

Second visit to Helsinki, second visit to this museum - it's always fascinating and the current exhibition (on the use of design to address various social issues) is no exception. Walking around this exhibition I found myself wondering why we don't do something similar in the UK? The 'Utopia Now' exhibition offers a good overview of the history of Finnish... More

Overall we enjoyed the museum, but it had some drawbacks. The travelling exhibition, 100 years of finnish icons, was set up in a weird way, so it was a bit hard to follow the chronology.

Finland is known for its design, and this museum does it proud. It's in a Victorian building, but the space inside is completely renovated to display the finest in Finnish design history. Right now there's an interesting exhibit of one item from each of the 100 years that Finland has been an independent nation. I don't know whether there is... More

Visiting Finland/Helsinki is a fine opportunity to update your knowledge about how much Finnish design is part of what today is taken for granted as the way good design should be. At this site you can get such an update.
