As we arrived in Suomenlinna this was the outstanding facade we first glimpsed. It was fascinating to discover that it was first completed as a Russian Orthodox church with five onion domes in the mid 1850s. Post Finland's independence in 1917 plans were in place...More

The structure is an imposing building as you arrive off the ferry. It was Saturday but the church wasn’t open. It would be great if one could climb to the top for the views.

Built by the Russian troops many years ago and now a Lutheran church. Simple inside, however I was impressed by the ring of cannons on chains surrounding the church - how peaceful!

I was on Suomenlinnan Island and the Church was one of the stops on the walking map. Went up to have a look.

Rather uninteresting but if you are on Soumenlinna then you are highly likely to visit. Its interiors are almost always empty and quite simple.

Very nice, simple Lutheran church. It can charm you with its majesty from outside and at the same time with the modesty inside. Worth stopping by if you have a trip to Suomenlinna.

Built Orthodox in the 1850's the church was converted Lutheran after the Finnish independence and still modernized in the 1960's. Looking at the Classical architecture, the airy and light interior it is hard to imagine the now defunct towers with golden cupolas and a heavy...More

The entire island is neat, but the church and its location are quite amazing. It really stands out in this location. What a great place.

Popular with couples getting married and you can understand why. Great setting with fabulous views. A bit strange that circling the church is an Industrial scale chain with old up-turned cannons at intervals.Inside it is quite plain - as you would expect of a Lutheran...More
