There are a lot of waterfront areas in this seaside city. Lots of ferries coming and going. We arrived on a cruise ship, so we were right on the sea. This particular harbor is vast and an important part of the entire area.

Visited this port during the Balkan Cruise by Royal Princess. Unlike most other ports newly built to accommodate big ships and having nothing to see at the port, there were a few shops right under the big tent selling many kinds of goods. Initially most passengers rushed for their excursions but once they returned, many were attracted by the merchandises being sold there. Noticed the big reindeer skin was at around EUR 135, just EUR 10 more expensive than the street stalls. Many shops at the pier were selling fur coats and fur hats etc at very attractive prices. Many racks claimed to be 30%-50% off and both quality and prices were very good value for money. The Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus was just outside the pier. Although there was free WiFi sign at the pier, it seemed nobody could find the correct internet provider to log on.

To ensure a smooth ride from my hotel to this harbour, I did a dry-run of my tram trip to this harbor a day before my ferry trip. From the Central Railway Station, I can take either Tram 7 or Tram 9. Both trams end at the West Harbour, Terminal.

The West Harbour is like any other harbors, with boats/ ships, hotels, and of course, the Big Bad Boy as an addition. The facilities are modern and just a short walk from the Tram Stop.

Just like everything else in Finland, this ferry terminal is very organised, clean and efficient - it has both self check in booths and staff at desks which speeds up the process too.

If you are travelling from Tallin with Tallink ferries, you will arrive at this terminal. It is probably possible to walk to the centre of Helsinki, but I would not advise it. Best to get the tram from outside the terminal. A 24 hr ticket will cost 9 euros. The best place to alight is probably the central railway station.

This is the terminal in Helsinki which provides the ferry that takes tourist for a day trip or longer to Tallinn. It lands in the Old Town terminal and you can walk to Old Town which is short distance to the medieval town center. The ferry ride is two hours one way. The boat provides food, drink, table seating. You can have meals on the boat sleep watch TV, take photos. It is a first class operation. Tickets are purchased at the terminal in Helsinki. Schedule is such you can spend a full in Tallinn and return in the evening. Well worth the trip. Must see while in Helsinki.

I took a very early cruise from Helsinki to Tallinn via Helsinki's West Harbour Terminal 2. I took a #7 Tram from my hotel, and it was easy to go to and find with the signs. I had a little trouble finding my ticket but the staff were helpful and friendly. There were a few dining options too, if you need to buy a meal last minute or buy food while you wait to embark a cruise.

The terminal was busy when I went, because people were boarding the cruise. Overall, West Harbour T2 is very clean, spacious and brightly lit.

With the newly constructed terminal 2 at the far end of the West Harbour, the atmosphere of the area has risen significantly in my opinion. Now equipped with several facilities for food and drink, the terminal is a pleasure to the eyes from the outside and very convenient inside. The surrounding sea view has been closely utilized in the architecture so that waiting for a ferry to Tallinn has never been this enjoyable.

We meandered around the harbour and waterside area in Helsinki during our stay over and loved looking over the ice and incoming boats and ferries. Plenty of nearby monuments and fountains to look at too, with Helsinki Cathedral not too far a walk either.
