Quiet cathedral in a quiet location

A place to stop by if you're in town and if you want to have a quiet moment. The architecture isn't extraordinary but it is very old and nice.

The church is a good representative of its time but what makes it special is the paintings inside, the boys carrying the greenery along the hall walls, the altar painting, and the masterly painting of how skeletons tend their garden left of the altar painting, which is my favorite. Could sit and watch it for ages.

There are some beautiful churches in Tampere, but if you only have chance to visit one, Tampere Cathedral is the one i would go for.

It's a beautiful piece of architecture and also a Place for worship and praying. I love the park outside, too! We walked there just before Sunday service, which we did not want to interfere, so we just peeked in.

It got voted Most Beautiful Church in Finlnd and I heartily agree. A kind of Art Nouveau style called Narional Romantic Style in Finland. Architect Lars Sonk. Full of wonderful murals and excellent stone carving. To me it looked rather Arts and Crafts. If you like architecture, you will love this building. I was so excited. I only stumbled upon... More

Every cathedral fan should visit this national romantic masterpiece by Lars Sock. The frescoes by Hugo Simberg and Magnus Enckell are worth to check out. Especially Simberg's wounded angel is very touching.

Tampere is a quite city and the cathedral is a really nice space. The frescoes are beautiful and unique, different from the ones we usually see in churchs.

Don't let the building date of 1907 put you off - this is an absolute stunner and is like nothing else I've ever seen. Where, for example, the Sagrada Familia has columns that make stone feel light and airy, this has columns that make no compromises - they are there to support the building and that's what they are doing.... An interesting combination of modern architecture on the inside and classic architecture on the outside. Be careful about the opening hours!
