    Finland's main church
Turku, Finland's oldest city, also has two of the most important monuments of the country: the Castle and the Cathedral, both from the end of the 13th century, when the town was founded by the Swedes. The Cathedral lies about 3km away from the Castle on the north side of the river Aura. Today there is a small park and square in front of the church, which can be seen from far away thanks to its over 100m high tower. The building consists mainly of red brick and what we see today dates mainly from after the Great Turku Fire of 1827, when most of the town was destroyed. In the interior the worthwhile to look at altarpiece, frescoes, pulpit all date from the 19th century, just as the tower. More recent are the organs of the cathedral. Outside the cathedral is a pleasant café with outdoor seating.

    Wonderful
A majestic church. A calm atmosphere inside. Also a place for smaller kids to play in. There was a museum on the second floor which had an entry fee of 10€. Didn’t check it out but would still recommend it.

A very old and strikingly large building, with understated exterior
We visited this cathedral, whilst visiting the city on a cruise. It is a large relatively plain but impressive building, having a commanding position in the centre of the city. The inside is quite striking, particularly in size, when looking down the nave from either end - the altar at one end and a very large high level organ at the other. Definitely worth visiting if in the city

    Monumental Ancient Cathedral of Turku!
Impressive ancient well preserved huge cathedral, where you can see a lot and feel a lot about the religion and centuries past. Located well in middle of the city. Looks gorgeous. I wonder in a summer time even better. Recommended!

Peaceful spot, beautiful building with distinctive architecture
We arrived in Turku very early after an overnight ferry, before most things had opened, so we decided to walk around the town a bit. Fortunately the weather was beautiful and it is a very attractive, walkable city. We loved it. Walking from the market square along the river to the cathedral is easy and filled with interesting buildings. The cathedral was not yet open when we visited so we only explored the outside, but it’s very photogenic and has a lovely tree-filled park. Actually we got talking to a Greenpeace charity collector while we were outside and they told us about plans to protect the park, which is great. As we walked around we watched fieldfares (birds) amongst others. It’s a lovely space to chill out in the city and also features some restaurant and bar tables nearby.

Very beautiful old church! Atmosphere was peaceful. We took lots of photos after asking if that is okay. There was a place for children to play. Entrance is free. Place to relax for a while.

Unless you are very much into churches, the best way for me to enjoy this building is to sit at the outside restaurant/food stand area close by, and just chill there. You will have the church in the background for the pictures, and at the same time, the feeling that you are in the city center.

Very simple yet beautiful church.I like when they have the candles you can light for prayers or past loved ones. It was probably the nicest thing I liked about Turku.
