Protector of Mt. Stapafell
Jul. 2021
I was told the saga of Bardur (not Barour as in the title!) Snaefellas by our fantastic guide on a day trip to the Snaefellnes Peninsula. Supposedly half troll and half human, he settled in Iceland to evade a vengeful Viking king in Norway. Legend has it that he still protects the mountain behind him and this striking statue made from rocks certainly does him justice. Start by walking the stunning coastal path and you will end up passing him.

Cool rock statue
Jun. 2021
This huge rock statue marks the parking lot and trail from Arnarstapi to Hellnar. It's very striking, as are all of the rock formations in this area.

I am impressed
Jul. 2021 • Couples
This fisherman statue is made of layed-up rocks, that's no cement. For using large rocks, the image is quite clear. Built in 1985, it is durable as all rocks look to be in great alignment.
Good job.

Stop here and take a walk along the coast! Beautiful blue water with stunning cliff views! It’s a quick stop if you’re in the area and worth it!

Nice walk by the shore
Sep. 2020
You can make a short walk by the rocky shore in Arnarstrapi. It is a beautiful walk with many scenic points to the rocky cliffs. Definitely recommended.

A giant statue
Jun. 2019
The huge statue of Bardur Snæfellsas is so noticeable when you drive into the small village Arnarstapi. Bardur was the settler of this area. He was half a troll and half a man, his father was half a titan, but his mother was a human. This huge stone structure of Bardur Snæfellsas at Arnarstapi was made by Ragnar Kjartansson. The statue is his interpretation of the giant character of Bardur. It is one of Iceland most renowned sculptures. You won't miss it. It's right next to the parking area. Take some times to walk along the coastal.

This place has different paths that allow you to have different views of the cliffs. Without a doubt, it is totally worth walking and enjoying the wonderful views of the place. Be very careful with the winds are too strong.

Amazing Statue, but too many tourists
Sep. 2019
It seems everyone wants a photo of themselves in the hole that runs through this statue and this does detract from the statue itself. It is a very unusual stone statue with an impressive head and face
