The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis are a spectacular natural phenomenon, often seen dancing around in fantastic colours across the Icelandic Arctic sky. The Northern lights are caused by the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the North Pole. That creates this wonderful light effect, known as the Aurora Borealis. The locations visited are different every tour since we go where it’s most likely to see the Northern Lights each day. This tour is dependant on weather and sightings are not guaranteed. Refreshments not included.

We did this trip twice as the first time we didn't see the lights. The coach seats over 80 people so on both occasions we had to endure a super long drop off for EVERYONE to their individual hotels. It would make more sense due...More

Went on the northern lights and stargazing tour with Reykjavik excursions. Was a clear night which was good but also a full moon which which lit up the sky like crazy which was not so good for seeing the northern lights. Tour still went ahead...More

We were told to phone in on the afternoon on the tour to ensure a high chance of seeing the lights. If there wasn't a high chance the tour would be cancelled. Fair enough, made sense. We phoned in and the tour was on, excellent....More

I love boats...in any weather. At 9pm in the freezing cold, in our survival onesie, we left the harbor. Lots of folks on board. Not sure how far we went out but it was only in the bay, not the open ocean. You have to...More

The guide on the bus was a mess - she was so terrible that I started to think she was acting. If you want to spend money, give it a shot. If you aren't into wasting money on a chance event, sit in a bar,...More

We went with GrayLine on Saturday 28 October. There was a full coach and our guide seemed a little unsure of the topic although she treated us to some interesting facts about population, schooling etc. It was obviously dark so there was little to point...More

We were very lucky to have seen the Northern Lights almost immediately after stopping. However, we were not warned of the uneven surfaces on the ground outside the coach as this was very dangerous due to large bolders, rocks etc.and completely pitch black. It was...More

It really is impossible to predict the sightings of the northern lights. You can check online for the predicted viewing rating about a week ahead. We went out twice and saw the lights on the second night. Good luck!
