Icelandic Mountain Guides is Iceland's premier adventure tour operator. For over 20 years we have been in continuous operation of offering adventures in the wilderness of Iceland and Greenland. The company was established in 1994 by four young mountain and outdoor enthusiasts and pioneers whose aim was to introduce the wonders of Icelandic nature to travelers from all over the world. We started by offering Glacier Walks in Skaftafell and later on Solheimajokull. Hiking, backpacking and other adventures and expeditions in Iceland and Greenland soon followed. Today Icelandic Mountain Guides is a company that offers adventure tours ranging from short day tours to longer multi-day expeditions in the great outdoors in both summer and winter. So whether it is the exploration of the icescapes of glaciers, crossing of impressive highlands, trekking in the extraordinary rhyolite massifs or hiking in fascinating valleys, our aim is to Make Every Moment an Experience.

We had done a glacier hike the day before in Skaftafell and it did not even hold a candle to Sólheimajökull. This glacier was fantastic. The tongue we had to climb was intimidating but the guide was amazing and I felt totally safe. We had a guide that went by the nickname 'Halt' or 'Holt' because we could not pronounce... More

We have just returned this week (Feb 2017) from a 4 night trip to Iceland and desperately want to go back already! We spent our first day doing a glacier hike and ice climb at Sólheimajökull glacier. It was my second time in Iceland and during my previous trip I had already done a glacier hike with a different company... More

We can't say enough about how great this trip was, and especially the guide, Hendrik. We thoroughly enjoyed each stop and all the food, but what made it so interesting was Hendrik. His background in history, geology, geography and adventure tourism was perfect, and his incredible enthusiasm for both the region and his job was just great. Even though his... More

We took the Golden Circle and Magical Nights tour. This company has great employees and they do a super job. Our tour guide was Selma. She was both knowledgeable and entertaining. It was a perfect tour.

We did the ice climbing and glacier walk with Icelandic Mountain Guides. Trig was excellent proving tips on climbing and ice walking as well as being safety conscious at all times. It was great being able to get into an ice cave and try pure glacial water. The scenery was spectacular at the top, and got good geological information from... More

Our guide was Max (Maxime Poncet). He made our Golden Circle tour great! He has a great attitude, was always upbeat and really made us feel welcome. Enjoyed seeing the scenery of Iceland for the first time and really enjoyed the trips to the farm and the greenhouses. We would certainly use Icelandic Mountain Guides again and would recommend them... More

We had an amazing guide Stefan and we are thankful for the lovely job he did on our glacier hike helping our 10 year old who was nervous and having a hard time. We are a family who goes skiing, horseback riding, white water rafting and hiking- so we were not expecting any trouble with this tour. From the reviews,... More

Hiking on a Glacier? Yes, please! This has been the most exciting and extraordinary activity I have done in Iceland in my 1 week road trip along the south of the island. The guide, who I cannot remember his name, but I have attached a picture and I hope he is happy with that =), was awesome and explained very... More

Had a lovely guide called Reynar who was thoughtful, pleasant and funny and looked after the group very well. The glacier was amazing as was the view of the surrounding mountains! Lovely outdoor activity - not taxing physically at all. Surreal to think was walking on a living thing that was thousands of years old and changes all the time!!... More
