The IMAGINE PEACE TOWER is a work of art conceived by the legendary artist and peace advocate Yoko Ono as a beacon to world peace. It is dedicated to the memory of John Lennon. The IMAGINE PEACE TOWER is located on Viðey Island in Kollafjörður and it's light is well visible from Reykjavík city and the capital area. Every year the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER emerges an hour after sunset between 9 October (Lennon's day of birth) and 8 December (Lennon's demise). In addition the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER emerges for one week on winter solstice, on New Year's Eve, for one week during spring equinox and few other selected dates. The ever changing weather conditions play an interesting part to the strength, intensity and brilliance of the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER’S light. During it's lighting time guided tours are avaiable called the Imagine Peace Tour. The tour is dedicated to the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER and Lennon’s and Ono’s continuing campaign for world peace. It is run by Elding with departures from Reykjavík's Old harbour. The tour unites history, art and nature is an interesting way.

Unless a day when illuminated it is just a circular construction, tiled white with peace written in different languages.

The simplistic monument sits at the westerly end of Reykjavík's Vidy Island and can only be reached by boat. It's illuminated for a few week of the year between Iceland's national day and Lennon's birthday, when it shines powerful laser lights up into the night sky. We didn't visit then, but it's a simple elegant tribute to "give peace a... More

We really enjoyed this tour. We booked it through Elding Tour Company. They were very professional and had an excellent, knowledgeable guide. Yoko Ono had this tower built for her late husband, John Lennon. It is built on the island of Videy, in Reykjavik, Iceland. The hope is that the Imagine Peace Tower will give light to the strong wishes... More

This is the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER built by Yoko Ono in a small island outside Reykjavik harbour. This light is only on during the period from John´s birthday October 9th and shines bright until the day he died 8th December. On the tower base you will find amazing list in 24 languages all saying the same: Imagine peace ! MUST... More

We saw this the night we went out to see the Northern lights whilst in Reykjavik. It was cool and nice to cross it off the bucket list.

The Peace Tower is located on an island, and only lit for a short time every year and it was something my husband has wanted to visit for a long time. We visited on a rainy night when the three of us were the only guests on the island. The lights from the tower caught the rain and mini-twinkles of... More

This year I drove with Elding from the harbour of Reykjavik to the island Viðey at 20:00. We were a small group of 5. It rained the whole evening but probably this gave the evening a special atmosphere. The Imagine Peace Tower is an unique place and I can recommed to visit us. This is only possible between October and... More

We went on an Elding excursion by boat to Videy Island, where the light is located. The trip was well organized and our guide was well informed and helpful. This was one of the "must see" sights for my (John Lennon fan) traveling companion, and she was happy with the experience. It was cold but we were well dressed for... More

This was one of my most memorable experiences in Iceland. The tour guide and tour operator were excellent - our guide was a young lady from Germany named Bipsy (or that is how it sounds, not sure the spelling). She shared alot of info about the Island, Whales, The Peace Tower, etc. It was a rainy night when we visited... More
