Attractive grey stone building on Austurvollur Square is Iceland's Parliament Building. Dates to 1881 and was much smaller than I expected. There is a modern annex to the right for governmental offices. Not sure if they offer tours of the interior.

The Parliament House is located in the center part of Reykjavik, Iceland, with a beautiful garden on the property. It is very easy to get to, and is within walking distance of the Centrum Hotel, where I was staying at. It seemed to be closed at the time, however, it makes for really nice pictures taken there.

Nice building with beautiful surroundings Stunning contrast to enormous armed presence about the US Capitol. Note lovely flower garden in back of the building, and broad grass park in front. Saw literally no one guarding this.

While the building itself (builtin 1881) is underwhelming, the site of the world's oldest Parliament is definitely worth a visit for those who are interested in learning more about Iceland's politics and history. While much of the building is off-limits to guests who are not on a guided tour, there is a small but beautiful garden that is open to the public. You can also take a free ~30-minute tour of the entire building, just by going to the website and asking to set up a tour in advance. My friends and I found the tour very informative, and enjoyed our visit to the building.

when you stand in front of it you can see in the center of the roof the crown of Christian IX, King of Denmark, who was the monarch of Iceland when the building was completed in 1881 (you can see the date just below the roof line). Seeing this building is particularly worth it is because it's across the street from the pretty public square which is a gathering place for the citizens of this city which was very much in the news when their financial banking system imploded in 2008.
Worth a visit is also the Frikirkjan church next door.

Cool history that we saw on a free walking tour, near great shopping and restaurants and
City hall. Protests also occur here and celebrations

We had a quick stop at the Parliament House on our way from HARPA .
The building is small and the surrounding environment is very nice!

In the center of Reykjavik on the Austurvollur Square the Islandic Parlament ,Althingihus is located. Island do have one of the oldest parlaments in the world is was started in the year 930 in Thingvellir about 45 km east of Reykjavik. In 1844 the Athingi moved to Reykjavik and the building was build in 1881. Is was build in grey Islandic stones, it is located close to the Reykjavik Cathedral. It has a small garden which is open and on the rigth side of the building some never office has been buildt, it is here were you want to enter the offices, ring the guard.
The Parlament has 64 seats from 7 party.
We did want to attend a parliament meating, this i posibel for all Islandig people, so as danes we also tried. Wednesday it starts at 15.00, you have togo left arround the building, ring the bell and security open , you are checked like in an airport and can then join the meeting from a balcony. Islandic is not that easy to understand, but we had a nice afternoon. We were al the time under control of an police officer.
Do visit Althingi, it is for free.

Our guide Tom was brilliant, lots of information on the history of Reykjavík, the important buildings and the idiosyncratic ways of Icelandic life.

The Square directly in front of the Alpingi house is a popular meeting point for city walking tours. The Parliament House is a landmark of the city, and probably is the least guarded 1 among all its peers. In fact, you can even walk all the way to the door front of this 19th century building to take your selfie, with no security personnel prohibiting you from doing so.
