As we completed our walking tour of the Silent City or the Walled city of Mdina we exited through this unique doorway. Our guide mentioned that this was the gate used for slaves to enter/exit Mdina. Built originally in the medieval period the gate was built in Baroque style in 1724. Not to miss the sculpture at the top of the gates and a unique tree to the side of the gates called the "Pregnant Tree" !!! Unique hidden gem of a tourist attraction with panoramic views of the city around !

The secondary gate for the city, it is sometimes called the Prisoner’s Gate. Its exterior is done in Baroque style. It is a vehicular exit point from the city.

Another gem of Architecture in the Mdina. It clearly shows how every community affected the history of the area

Stunning details and the history is just wonderful. It's easy to become complacent with so much history around Malta - but the history and age of this is really impressive.

The main gate is the way most people come into the old city but it is worth wandering around the side streets to find these other gates.

The 'Greek Gate' has got its place in Maltese history during the uprising against Napolean's forces occupying the islands during the French era.
Mdina, better known as the ‘silent city’ is truly a ‘paradise’ for any creative professional wedding photographer who is busy clicking in Malta. The lighting, the architecture, and the feeling of being there are just fantastic.
As a pro photographer, familiar with the place, I would strongly recommend Mdina to be at the top of the list when visiting Malta. A family photoshoot organized through your professional photographer in Malta is highly recommended.
The potential bride and groom considering ‘tying the knot’ in Malta should consider this historic location together with some photos in a sandy beach for their wedding album.
Finally, I would suggest that the potential bride and groom choosing Malta as their destination wedding, should discuss this possibility with their official photographer or perhaps with their wedding organizer or wedding planner in-order to fit this photoshoot in their wedding timeframe. A beautiful sunset in a wedding album is also a strong possibility while visiting the Maltese islands.

We visited both the Main and 'Greek' Gate's into the old walled city of Mdina and whilst the Main Gate was very busy and crowded with tourists the Greek Gate was rather quiet and took you straight into some very beautiful old city streets. Worth a visit.

Another gate in Europe is not going to blow you away - but this one is worth seeing. The surrounding area is equally well preserved.
