Great setting and does involve lots of stairs. Old style layout, no modern electronic type displays. However this is most certainly worth a visit, the exhibits are varied and very interesting. Do include it in your visit to Mdina

My initial impression, based on the posters in the entrance corridor, was that this was a bit technical - summaries of academic papers on the wall. But it got better, with some galleries more modern than others. The room displaying information about the smaller Maltese islands around the main two (Gozo and Malta) appeared to be recent and was informative.... More

The museum is set in a beautiful baroque palace that wows on entry. The museum itself is quite small but has some brilliant collections of specimens - I particularly enjoyed the room with all the birds and the skeletons. However I think the surroundings could do with a bit of updating in order to show the pieces to their best... More

I visited this fantastic museum for the first time in May 2016 and I was not disappointed. Over the years I have seen different set ups in various places at showing the natural history of a place and this one is the best I have seen yet with the wide spectrum of all the different exhibits that they have gathered... Housed in Palazzo Vilhena, a Baroque palace rebuilt in 1726 by Grand Master Antonio Manoel de Vilhena, the National Natural History Museum is worth a quick visit. It has some good exhibits as seen in some of the photos here. The museum is included in the Heritage Malta Multisite Pass.

Kids enjoyed it a lot. Skeletons of fish, dinosours. Its quite a big museum but its airy and filled with natural light. Took us about 1 hr 30 mins, but the children were hooked.

It is not so special, but you can see local animals, bugs and plants of Malta. It is okay for spending half an hour.

Got a ticket here as part of a deal with 3 other attractions so it was good value. It is quite an old fashioned sort of museum, but was just what I expected from a natural history museum. They have some lovely collections; I particularly liked the shells, the birds and the skeletons. And I see they are adding an... More
