OPEN MONDAY - SUNDAY from 09.00 Till 17.00Hrs (last admission at 16.30Hrs). The mosaic pavements in the Domvs Romana at Rabat rank among the finest and oldest mosaic compositions from the western Mediterranean, alongside those of Pompeii and Sicily. They were discovered in 1881 just outside Mdina in the remains of a rich and sumptuously decorated town house of the Roman period. This museum was one of the very first to be opened to the public in Malta. The small museum of the Domvs Romana is built around the remains of a rich, aristocratic roman town house (domvs) which was accidentally discovered in 1881. Although very little remains from the house itself, the intricate mosaics which survived for centuries, as well as the artefacts found within the remains, are testimony of the original richness and story of this fantastic abode. The current Museum building does not only preserve some of the most precious Roman remains but also provides a glimpse into the lives of a Roman domestic household, from the actual division of roles in a Roman family, to fashion, education, entertainment, food and drink.

The Domus Romana is a ruined Roman-era house located on the boundary between Mdina and Rabat, Malta. There are tombstones and Limestones and the floors are made of Mosaics..It is very worth it to visit.

In regards to Malta, Domus Romana offers an alternative look at the nation's history to fill in some of the gaps between the likes of the neolithics, Knights of St John and the world wars. If you are not that interested in visiting the museum...More

Lovely lovely mosaics. Friendly staff with good advice about the multi site ticket. More expensive than last time we were here but still worth considering. More info about the ruins outside would be good. Amazing glass.

For us the museum was ideal. Lots of interesting information, but small enough that the kids didn’t lose interest. Liked the mosaics, kids delighted when pictures of them were shown as part of The Malta Experience!

Only 6euros to get in to read some info boards and see some statues tiled mosaic floors and then out to see the villa ruins. As you can see from the title this was not really my cup of tea.
