We wanted to cross and go and see the 3 cities and decided that this was going to be the easiest way to get there. The ferries are regular and on time. You can sit inside or outside depending on the weather. Good and inexpensive.

Go to option if I have to go very quickly from Valletta to Sliema (much faster compared to the bus).
Pro: much faster than the bus, you can use you Tallinja card.
Cons: bit more expensive than bus, check also timetable.

As others have said it takes 15 minutes (including load & unload). However it is worth noting that it is currently running on the winter timetable, from 1st November until 31st May. First ferry from Valletta 07:00, and last at 19:00 Monday to Saturday. Sundays & Public holidays 09:00 - 18:00 every half hour.
The return from Sliema starts and finishes 15 minutes later.
