This library is in active use, so keep that in mind when busting in with your loud tourist mouth. Nice exhibits.

Location and architecture of this place is a great representation of just how important role education had, and still has, in Malta. In front of the entrance is very striking monument to Queen Victoria, which only bring more importance to the whole place.

This place is exquisite! The books date so far back and it's set in such a beautiful room. Great preservation work. I just wish they sold postcards of the library!

This is still of course a functioning research library (most particularly for scholars working in the field of Maltese history) rather than a conventional tourist attraction, but it is well worth the ascent of the impressive staircase to see the library's handsome galleried period reading room. Display cabinets contain some of the library's visually most interesting and valuable illustrated volumes,... More

I visited the library to do some family history research as my heritage is Maltese. I had to make an application and bring my passport along in order to use the library. The staff were exceedingly helpful to me, and I am very grateful. I was handed a very old hand written record book, with records dating back to 1575,... More

I recently took my students to see the restoration process and old manuscipts from the Knights period. We were all mesmerised. If you're a tourist and happen to be in Valletta, don't miss the National Library. It's a must.

An interesting place for book lovers, ancient text out on display. Sadly the books are not being preserved properly and in a few more years, the book worms will have eaten more .....

Leave an ID card at the entry, get a visitors pass and take ten minutes to go and have a look inside this historical library with its ancient volumes. Well worth the effort.

We went to the library to see part of an exhibition about the founding of Valetta. the other half was at St Elmos. It was fascinating to see the walls of ancient books and see some very early manuscripts. I'm not sure if it is open to visitors regularly but it is worth a look if it is. You have... More
