After visiting the castle we decided to climb that hill towards the chairlift with the decision to take it down the town. To our surprise the lift was closed and no signs anything worning about it. Nevertheless we did not regret going there as we enjoyed our little self-organized picnic on the empty terrace with the breathtaking view over the... More

The chairlift base station is located about a 500m walk from the bridge crossing the river in town. This is by far the best way to ensure a nice walk in Vianden that takes in the castle on the way back to town. It is also the smartest way to do this as it is pretty well all downhill from... More

If you are not afraid of heights then this is a nice activity to do in a sunny day. I think it is quite romantic.

For two return €10.60 Beautiful views at top of Vianden town & castle. Restaurant at top with plenty of seating. Loos are a bit to be desired €0.50 each throw in a dish then walk around to open toilets a bit drafty to say the least. Couple of hours to kill ok. Open till 5pm this time of year. When... More

We have spent a few hours in Vianden, but it was enough to visit most of the attractions. The classical tour is to take the chairlift, walk to the castle, then walk down back to the centre. The chairlift starts next to the Hot Stone Chalet restaurant which is supposedly good but quite pricey. One way ride costs around 4... More

This chairlift rises over the river to the top of the valley. It is easily found and is very reasonably priced. Two seater open pods allow you to enjoy some marvellous scenery. An eating opportunity is available at the top or bottom (better).

The chairlift is a quick 11 minute ride up the hill, finishing above the Chateau. We rode up and then walked down to the castle. The walk may be difficult for some older folks as there are places where the footing is not the best. There are beautiful views of the town and castle on the ride and on top,... More
