This has to be my favourite attraction in the whole of Northern Cyprus. The adventure started right after leaving the car next to the ruined monument to the plane crash victims. The path up to the castle is not rough or dangerous as some would...More

It is the steepest and most difficult castle of Cyprus. It was built around the eleventh century, during the Byzantine period. It is 950 m high above sea level. When I climb on it, my breath is cut off, but the view is breathtaking. I...More

My Wife and 3 children made the trip to Buffavento, ages 7,12 and 15, well worth it but not for the faint hearted, the road is long and narrow as us the path to the castle itself, just take your time and enjoy it, take...More

This is more remote than St Hillarion or Kantara castle. The car park is quite small and and the end od narrow roads (depending if you come from the north or the south. It's a long climb upwards - with great views over the countryside...More

An excellent free attraction. Fairly easy steps to climb up. Interesting ruins. Exceptional views. No café. Wear sensible shoes and take some water with you.

Both sites very interesting and worth the hair pin bends. A knowledgeable guide will help. Quite a climb to a view point. Not for the faint hearted. €1 for lavatory.

The turning off the Besparmak Road for the castle is cunningly concealed - it is opposite the restaurant - coming from Girne it is opposite the restaurant about 6 km from the junction with the coast road. The road from there on to the castle...More

Hiking this castle literally brought out my love of hiking, I haven't done it ever since, but I'm looking forward to do it again during the next visit to see the family. I'm not a big sports kind of person, so I was so surprised...More

1.2 km up and the same down! Oxigenation, combined with the super view! One of the strategic points of the isle defense, along with St. Hilarion and Kantara castle!

To us this seemed the best castle - it's in a beautiful location up a long windy road. After parking it's a steep walk up to the castle itself but it's got good steps up to the top. From the top it's a fantastic view...More

That's a hard one-do you mean the Nicosia on the Turkish Cypriot side? If so, I'm not sure. If you do mean the Greek side then the answer is-you can't. You'll have to take a taxi that will cross the border-and it's not that... More
