This unusual sculpture is set on the main square in town and add a lot of character to it. it is said to be from the 16th century and pulled to the square by 300 men dressed all in white.
Shortly after it was erected they added the Fountain which used to be the source of the towns drinking water and used to fight fires!
It isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing but the history adds a great deal.

Similarly to Maria Theresa statue, this statue is placed on the main square. If you are going to Klagenfurt, you can't avoid it. But rather than looking at it, google the story that it represents, as the statue itself if not that interesting without it.

In the TOP attractions of Klagenfurt in Austria, Lindwurmbrunnen is in first place - a dragon fountain installed in the center of New Square. According to an ancient legend, at the site of the settlement there were swamps surrounding Wörthersee, where a ferocious dragon lived (called Lindwurm in German culture). He terrified the locals, dragging them into an underwater lair on the lake. Several brave warriors defeated the Lindwurm. It was in honor of the slaying of the dragon that a beautiful settlement was founded on the site of a dried-up swamp.

DO NOT PARK your car in underground parking garage at Lindwurm square. We had a really bad experience on sunday visit. No operators work in garage on sundays, and phone number listed on info board is the one in the garage. Also, info board says 5,10 and 20 banknotes are accepted on paying machine, but they are not. We stayed more then one hour, and it costed 7,00 €, we didn't have any coins and tried to pay with paper money. After third try parking automat blocked parking ticket, and every time we inserted parking ticket it said "ticket blocked" we couldn't pay parking fee with coins either any more. We called info service number, and the phone rang in the closed garage office. We called police, nobody speaks english, they connected us with some other people from parking service (maybe) they barely spoke english, and wasn't very helpful either. Time passed and we reached third hour in garage with parking fee over 10,00 €, suddenly parking ticked was unlocked and the stupid machine accepted coins we exchanged in the meanwhile. So, if you don't want to spend your time visiting Klagenfurt in dark underground garage, go park somewhere else, it's definitely cheaper. On the brighter side, the square itself is average, the dragon is interesting but not very exceptional.

It is on the main square and it is really nothing special. We took a photo there just because we didn't find anything in Klagenfurt. Boring town.

The Lindwurm fountain, representing the Lindwurm dragon, about to be slayed by Hercules, is located in the center of Klagenfurt, on the Neuer Platz. The Lindwurm sculpture hails from the 16th century, the Hercules figure was added in the 17th century. It has been adopted by the Klagenfurt council as the symbol of Klagenfurt. a silhouette of the Lindwurm, mostly in red, is often added to Klagenfurt publicity. I have added some pictures to this review for a view of this fountain. When arriving by car, avoid the car park at the Neuer Platz, under the Lindwurm. This car park is extremely expensive. Try for the Arkaden car park or Theater car park just to the north of the pedestrianized area of Klagenfurt.

A very impressive and nice park with a statue on a fountain. If you have not seen it you have not been in Klagenfurt.

Almost in the city centre, there lies a statue of a flying dragon and a man fighting with it. Also a statue of Queen is present here. Looks a good place with lot of shops around to buy souvenirs. A must visit place in Klagenfurt...

A very clean and well kept statue of the dragon, which dominates the platz where it is found. A good fable of the origins of the dragon is etched in stone nearby, it is quite striking.
