Totally redesigned for Mozart's anniversary, in old stables, built against the mountain. Spectacular yet subservient to its function. Classy without being intimidating. Always playing something which is presented in a slightly different way without being distracting. Had the opportunity to see Don Giovanni performed during the Festspiele. One of the best performances and locations I've had the good luck to... More

On a recent visit to Salzburg, I happened to be there during the Music Festival. Despite the hyped up prices and the numerous tourists I enjoyed the experience thoroughly. For an added bonus it's the only time that you can visit events in the famous Festival Hall. I took a tour of the building and was transported from a high... More

Ok Salzburg is an expensive city and the opera is no exception with the top price seats about twice the cost of the equivalent seats at the Royal opera House in London. That said its worth doing if opera is your thing. They also do tours but I didn't go on that. Staff are always helpful and it's always a... More

The Salzburg Festival is one of the meccas for classical music lovers. You can pretty much guarantee that anything you see there will be terrific. The Festspielhaus is a good hall, not the best acoustics, but more than adequate for the wide variety of the presentations. And it is the presentations that are the stars.

If you want to get a deep look behind the scenes and a lot of background information about history of the festival halls you should absolutely join the tour.

To be honest, the tour guide was fantastic. She did the tour in both German and English and was very informative. But frustrating was the fact that nobody at the booking desk mentioned to any of us that we would not be viewing the rock riding school due to rehearsals; which is what most people come to see! So I... More

I spent one week in Vienna in 2014 and had such a great time that I wanted to go back to Austria again this year. The 50th anniversary of the movie "Sound of Music" got me interested in visiting Salzburg initially as I love musicals and classical music. While I was reading about Salzburg, I found out about the Salzburg... More

Went to a lunchtime performance of Mahlers 9th with Vienna Philharmonic, as part of the festival. Felt as if we should have made more of an effort to be smart, but didn't feel uncomfortable. Most of the patrons were immaculatey turned out in suits or traditional dress, and great place for people watching. The auditorium was superb and the acoustics... More

The place is not a standard one ! First of all the way it has been built sets it apart ; a huge quantity of rock has been removed from the mountain in order to provide enough space for its baskstage and then for the adjoining and very useful garage. It was conceived as an opera house and is one... More

We took a tour of the 3 concert halls here. They don’t allow pictures of the stage, but it was really neat to walk around. You get to see the stage that was used in the final scene of the sound of Music, which was a highlight for me. The tour is part of the Salzburg Card, so if you... More
