Outstanding concert. My tips are to get the cheaper seats as there is no difference in sound quality and you can leave more easily.Secondly find out how to get there before you go.it is not well signposted. Finally wear light clothes as the concert hall is very warm.Highly recommended to all.Even if you know nothing about classical music you will recognize most of the tunes.

Every New Year's Day, my husband watches the Strauss Concert from Vienna on PBS. And every year he said the same thing, "We have to go there sometime." So that's exactly what we did on our trip to Vienna, Austria. I purchased tickets online at http://www.hofburgorchester.at/. After spending a lovely day walking around the city, touring the Schonbrunn Palace and having dessert and coffee at Demel's, we went to the concert at the Hofburg Palace. The Palace is huge. We couldn't find the entrance to the concert hall and asked several people where it was. We finally found a little doorway in the courtyard of the palace that led us into a large waiting room and finally into a magnificent and opulent concert hall inside the Palace.

The concert was amazing and had some comedic moments as well. A special treat was the opera singers who performed separately and then together. It ended, as all Strauss Concerts at the Hofburg end, with "The Blue Danube Waltz." A truly magical evening of outstanding music presented in a beautiful and historic setting!

It seemed appropriate when in Vienna to attend a classical concert. We weren't sure where to go. This one was held in magnificent surroundings of the Hofburg Palace, in a room with at least 60 chandeliers, which created the ambience that transported you back to the times when Strauss would have been performing. The singers, dancers and orchestra produced a varied programme which was about right in length and substance. It's just a pity that the seats are not allocated by numbers. This means that early arrival is recommended. Mind you it does give you time to soak up the atmosphere and admire the surroundings. We bought our tickets a couple of days before the performance. They are readily available from costumed vendors at ticket stands around the area.

We went to this concert with friends.Because I am not a classical music fan I did not expect much. To my surprise I enjoyed the concert and was thoroughly entertained.

The orchestra and vocalists were at least good, but the venue was very poor. It appeared to have been a large ballroom with high ceiling, hard wall surfaces, filled with audience on folding chairs. The room was not acoustically designed for performances, so from at least the middle of the hall to the back, the music was deadened and faint. This was not a pleasant concert for us -- and in Vienna! We can't recommend this concert; find somewhere else to appreciate the classics of this city.

Like many others, I've watched the New Year's Day Concert from Vienna on TV and wished I could experience it. This obviously isn't quite the same thing but nevertheless extremely enjoyable. I loved the whole experience. It was light hearted an we were kept entertained It was as you would expect really. After the first half we were served with champagne or fruit juice whichever was your choice. There is no formal dress code. I wore a smart sleeveless dress. I saw a couple of ladies in long dresses and some Japanese gentlemen in shorts to anything goes and you wont feel out of place. How could you visit Vienna and not attend a concert? Graham wasn't keen on going as it wasn't really his thing, but even he enjoyed it! Our tickets cost 40Euro - £32 and you can pre book on line.

Firstly the enthusiastic young men dressed as Strauss and Mozart selling the tickets to the concert are nowhere to be seen when you arrive at Herengasse station. Travelling alone means you need chaperones around the massive Hofburg Palace. After much flagging down people and asking directions eventually I arrived at my destination. It was most definitely worth the 55 euros. A polished performance with outstanding opera singing as well. Whether the comedic interlude is necessary, I would think not.Gunshots in the concert hall hurt the ears . I think the beautiful setting complemented the music. Well worth the visit.

attended this based on reviews from others and we werent disappointed. The performance was in a large ballroom with a mixture of mozart and strauss but overall more strauss songs than mozart's (only 3 mozarts if i recall correctly). There were duets and a few clarinet pieces with some funny creative mix eg using the sound of hammering blend in with the background orchestra, use of air gun! to add to the atmosphere.

The male singer's voice unfortunately didnt portray as loudly as I'd expected probably because the surroundings not having a good accoustic effect but I'm sure in a proper opera house they would have been outstanding.

I read in the leaflet you can get half price tickets with the Vienna card for this concert but best check with them for confirmation
