About
This property is temporary closed EXPERIENCE HUNDERTWASSER UP CLOSE: Art - Achitecture - Nature - Vision Two intriguing museums experiences await the visitors at the KUNST HAUS WIEN. The Museum Hundertwasser presents the world's biggest collection of Austrian exceptional artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928 -2000): his world famous paintings, fine art prints, tapestries and architectural designs. Here you can immerse yourself in his imaginative world of art inside and out - colorful walls and uneven floors in the interior, the artistic façade with tiles and color fields on the outside. "Tree tenants" grow from the windows, plants and flowers inhabit the rooftop and inner courtyard. In Vienna's first "green museum" one can sense Hundertwasser's visionary mind and experience his ecological engagement on site. Beyond that the KUNST HAUS WIEN is Vienna's premier house for photography exhibitions: changing exhibitions introduce the biggest names of photography to a wide audience.

The Vienna Art House was opened in 1991. Purchased and converted by Hundertwasser himself, it is now a top tourist attraction. Hundertwasser acquired the building of the former Thonet furniture factory, completely rebuilding it in his characteristic style. Irregularly arranged multi-colored elements of glass, metal, tiles, wood and ceramics gave a unique look to a previously inconspicuous structure.

Walked for 40 mins to this museum. Was told I couldn't take my small rucksack into the exhibition with me. It contained 2 very expensive cameras which I didn't want to leave in a locker. The guy on reception was fine but the woman there told me I couldn't go in. Pathetic and unsympathetic way to treat visitors. All I'm left with is a bad impression of how Austria treats foreign visitors and it's put me off visiting the city again.

My partner had been to Kunst Haus and wished me to see it as well. It was something of a life time experience. Hundertwasser's surrealist approach to architecture and other forms of art is mind bending. So colourful, so uneven, so enticing. As well as being a museum, it also holds exhibitions. We had a chance to see "Mining Photography" and "Sonnenschein Rhapsodies" exhibitions. The museum's cafe is also a "must-see" "must-experience" place, with colourful and uneven mosaics and delicious cakes, particularly strudels. Their garden is simply an oasis from the noise and crowd of the town.

very interesting architecture and a lot of colour but I think that this is not something that you must see in Vienna, there are a lot of more interesting things.

After visiting the Hundertwasserhaus, which can be viewed only from outside, we headed for the museum, strangely not named after him but dedicated to his work.

What a body of work too – mainly paintings here but also fascinating insights into all the other media in which he worked, from redesigning a church to stamps, graphics, car number plates, even a poster for the Munich Olympics.

The thread running through it all was his use of vibrant colours in everything.

Magnificent!

Interesting architecture, fascinating environmental exhibit, but paintings were not to our taste and floors were not disabled-friendly.

We visited the cafe. Great food (except vegetarian option) and expensive. Best chips I’ve tasted in a long time and husband said schnitzel was mwah! Good wine too.

Here we found the most amazing artist ,Hunderwasser- which was a joy after such a long walk to find it (Its not really easy to find ) the quirky cafe there too was great fun and the staff were most friendly . There is lift access if you need it - the staff were most helpful.Beware the floors beneath you undulate and if you are using crutches of sticks can un nerve you a little.

Unusual buildings, but mostly a gift shop. If you don't have much else to do, then it would be worth a trip, otherwise, you're not missing much.
