Stunning location in front of the Schoenbrunn Palace with large Christmas tree, Nativity scene and carol singing it was very atmospheric. Large market with lots of stalls selling all kinds of items from baubles and other decorations, candles, toys, food items, craft goods and more, many of which we hadn't seen elsewhere. The food stalls also offered a wider variety... More

There is no doubt that the location of this market is just lovely, but the market itself, in my opinion, was just the same old stuff I'd seen everywhere else.It felt kind of commercial and not very Christmassy to be honest. I did rather enjoy the gouda and bacon hot sandwich I had there though.

Lovely market. The caramel punsch was definitely a winner for me. But all in all a very commercial market compared to others which I liked more, like Spittelberg.

Like other Christmas markets in Vienna this includes various stalls of food, wine, decorations and gifts. The Schoenbrunn Palace as a backdrop makes this place more special.

Great day or evening out. Markets are gorgeous. Lots of little stalls selling food, drink or Christmas goods. Lovely tree and area very well maintained. A must see when visiting Vienna.

These markets are not in the middle of town so are a little hard to get to. They are lovely because of the Palace but don't differ greatly from other Christmas Markets.

Stunning location to wander round a Christmas Market. Attractive market stalls kitted out with lovely Christmas arts and crafts. The beautiful aroma of food cooking is everywhere and it's a must to purchase a mug of wine to warm yourself up as you soak up the atmosphere. This is truly an amazing experience.

It is a wonderful feeling to see so many beautiful Christmas lights at the Schoenbrunn Palace. I walked through all the booths at the market and drank some hot mulled wine. Just love walking in this Christmas Market as it is in front of such amazing architecture.

Thank Amy K

Staying in Hietzing

Neighbourhood Profile
Vienna’s 13th district has always been in the shadow of Schönbrunn Palace and its gardens, but has interesting hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Allow half a day for the imposing Habsburg residence and the gardens with Gloriette belvedere. Reserve the other half to discover the secret charms of this posh residential neighbourhood. Sneak out of the gardens at Hietzinger Tor (Hietzing Gate) and head down Hietzinger Hauptstrasse for Kaiserpavillon (Emperor’s pavilion), an Art Nouveau gem right on top of U4’s metro railtracks. At local institutions Café Dommayer and restaurant Plachutta you can mingle with residents, their families and friends. Dommayer has risen to fame since waltz king Johann Strauss and his orchestra performed there regularly. If you want to go beyond private villa gazing visit Klimtvilla and Hermesvilla. Art Nouveau genius Gustav Klimt had his last studio in a now beautifully renovated villa, which is open during spring and summer. Hermesvilla at Lainzer Tiergarten animal enclosure and nature park is a must for all romantics and fans of Empress Sissi.
