The Donauinsel is a narrow island in the middle of the Danube river in Vienna. U-Bahn (U1) will stop directly on the island, and you can walk across the bridge. Even in the winter time, it is still beautiful to see.

This place houses The Hope of the World church and is of Roman Catholic denomination. The church is located next to the Vienna International Centre and its architect is Heinz Tesar. A great reason to venture further than the city centre.

The city beach is worth a visit. Supply your own drinks/picnic from the supermarket, bring a bathing costume and a towel and head down for a river swim and views of the prater.

I visited Danube island during beach volleyball world championship. A big portion of the island was reserved for the beach village. I think Austrians know how to do events. The island itself is placed between two streams - one is used for navigation, in another...More

The nudist part is on the southern end of Donauinsel! Best way to get there: U1 station DONAUINSEL and then either walking (around 35 minutes) or faster on the bike
