The Museum of Military History, one of the most important history museums...

The Museum of Military History, one of the most important history museums in the world, is situated right in the centre of the Arsenal.

About five-hundred years of Austrian and European History are depicted in the collections exhibited in the main building, which has kept its character of an artistic synthesis, making visible, by means of thousands of original exhibits, a part of world cultural heritage.

In five major sections the museum shows the history of the Habsburg empire from the end of the 16th century until 1918 and Austria's fate after the dissolution of the monarchy up to the year 1945.

One of the most spectacular history museums I have ever been to!! From the early 30 Year war History of Austria in the 1600 and 1700's to an exceptional display of WWI History and also WWII. There are beautiful large paintings...really stunning paintings depicting early war scenes. Great displays of armor, weapons and uniforms, model ships, real cannons, bombs. Everything... More

This is a great museum well worth visiting. Easy to get to if you catch the D tram to the Hauptbahnhof and then walk a few hundred meters to the museum. The WW1 display has plenty of English signs and has recently been redone. You can also download an audio app but I think you need an Austrian iTunes account... More

If you love Military history it is well worth visiting this museum! Fabulous outdoor display of tanks too! Informative and increased my understanding of Austria's involvement in both World Wars. Little cafe there too for a coffee or light lunch. Beautiful buildings as well!

One of the highlights of our visit to Vienna. The WW1 exhibition is entirely new and very comprehensive, and includes the car in which Archduke Franz Ferdinand was shot in Sarajevo -- standing just a few inches away from it really brings you face-to-face with history. There's a separate naval wing as well, including the chilling conning tower of a... More

This is manage by the Austrian Arm Forces and not by the usual museum people. It has great deal of military history but sadly for foreigner, unable to understand the explanation ( mostly in German ). However, there are some exhibits that everyone can enjoy. Highly recommended!

It charts the history if Austria's military right up to date I spent over 4 hours with lots to look at and read but the highlights are the car and uniform Archduke Franz Ferdinand that kicked off WW1

A fascinating insight into the miliatary history of Austro-Hungarian Empire and a very detailed exhibition on the first and second world wars. The car in which Archduke Frank Ferdinand was assassinated is there and it is very sobering to realise that 2 bullet holes caused so much death and devastation.

It consists of a few buildings but if you love history, especially military history, you shouldn't miss this place. It is well arranged and marked, the location is convenient and a beautiful park surrounds it
