We did the trip from Passau to Linz with a stop in Salzburg as part of an APT tour. It was really well organised and the trip was excellent. Wines and snacks were served and the staff were simply excellent. On the second part, singers came on board and performed some Mozart and some songs from the Sound of Music.... More

This was one of the great experiences of our holiday. This was a touch of luxury and we really appreciated all the effort to make this an experience we would not forget. The carriages we were on was the Equipage which was magnificent. There was a snack and drinks provided and this was very nice on our trip to Salzburg.... More

Don't get me wrong, the trip itself is amazing. But were put in the carriage with very uncomfortable chairs. All the other carriages had comfy sofa-type chairs, but we had uncomfortable dining-style chairs. With my back issues, this was unsuitable. Otherwise an enjoyable trip.

Another touch of luxury on our APT river cruise that took us from Passau to Salzburg and back to Linz in carriages fit for an emperor with excellent refreshments, service, comfort and quality operatic entertainment on the return journey. What a wonderful day.

We had a similarly good experience to previous reviewers who took the train from Linz to Salzburg as part of an APT river cruise. We were returned by train to Passau which took three and a half hours. The seats become quite hard after the first few hours but the entertainment provided was so delightful it took our minds off... This is a signature inclusion on our APT river cruise and signature it is. From the moment we got on the train we had a great time. A beautiful train wonderful service on looking after us. The country of Austria is beautiful and this was an amazing way to see it. Would highly recommend this trip to anyone.

It was supposed to be one of the highlights of our trip. We boarded the majestic train at Linz and bound for Salzburg , and then return to Passau. About 40 minutes from Linz, we were struck behind a derailed train. That was the end of our ride. Waited some 90 minutes for buses to transport us onto Salzburg. I... More

We had a trip on the Majestic Imperator through an APT river cruise. We went from Passau to Salzberg then after some time in Salzberg on to Linz. The first part of the trip was ok with the train crew looking after us with food and drink. On the way home we were brilliantly entertained by a group of young opera... More

My Husband and I were part of a tour group travelling on this wonderful Train. We were located in the "Gold" carriage which was very pretty. Had so much fun taking photos of our fellow travellers located in the other colourful carriages. Morning tea consisted of light cakes and sparkling wine. On the return journey we were treated to a... Whilst the Majestic Imperator train is exactly what it says on the Tin 'Majestic' unfortunately that was not the case or the experience that myself and 16 others had. As fiver separate groups we shared a common experience of anger, disappointment and neglect. Unfortunately, for us all it appears that the company had over booked the 'New Years Eve', event... More

Staying in Leopoldstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
Leopoldstadt
Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city centre and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theatres, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.
