We attended in February last Thursday. Concert was not held in the Orangerie but in a room in the main palace. Beautiful room with seating for about 100 people. This made the event intimate and it did not matter very much where you were seated. The orchestra was fantastic and so were the two singers who performed pieces of mainly... More

We fully expected the concert to be in the hall on the orangery, and it is a wonderful venue which suited the style of concert. The consent itself included ballet, opera and music, and all were of high quality and perfectly executed. The musicians played with confidence, energy, sense of humour and great presence. The performers engaged and captivated the... More

The performance of Mozart and Strauss' most popular pieces was very good, even though the musicians must be quite bored playing Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, etc for the umpteenth time, they did not show it at all. Special mention mention must be made of the opera singers, especially the male baritone, who looked as if he was thoroughly enjoying himself! He... More

Extremely disappointing and misleading - nowhere near value for money. This was advertised as "candlelit dinner in the palace orangery" - downright lie, it was in the Marriott Hotel down the road, which we got sent to after we bought our tickets. We got seated in a bright, very standard hotel dining area, crammed in and sat very close to... More

At the beginning when we entered the hall we are very disappointed , the venue is exactly like a school hall where you watch your kids play drama, and the seats are stackable gym chair which needless to say it's uncomfortable . But once the music start it's amazing , the performance is very good , the singing and dancing... More

Dear 230bryanl, thank you very much for your feedback! I would like to respond to some of the points you mentioned: We feel very sorry that the Orangery did not meet your expectations, as already the Habsburg emperors loved to use this venue for their royal concerts and festivities. Moreover we are surprised about your feedback on the chairs. I... More

This is a lovely package deal to include an audio guided tour, dinner and performance at the Schonbrunn Palace. I recommend everyone do this tour. After researching some venues to attend a performance, I came across a package that offered the opportunity for a tour of the Schonbrunn Palace. It sounded wonderful to be able to have a lovely dinner... More

We wanted to hear some music on our short visit to Vienna and this fitted the bill. There was a bit of orchestral music, bit of Opera singing and a bit of Ballet. Concert was held in the beautiful Orangery at the Schonbrunn Palace. We found our way there easily on the underground system. Our only gripe was the having... More

This is an expensive package so expectations are high. We got off to a bad start because we couldn't easily find the Orangerie ticket office. We were in a hurry to meet the deadline for the palace tour and the weather was appalling - much rushing around like headless chickens and absolutely none of the staff we encountered in the... More

Just returned from an evening at the Orangery with my family. My wife and I decided to book the evening meal with concert at the palace through our hotel reception. A good idea because we paid the hotel and took the receipt to the orangerie where our tickets were waiting for us. To serve about 100 people a three course meal in one hour plus drinks takes some organisation. The attendants... More

Staying in Hietzing

Neighbourhood Profile
Hietzing
Vienna’s 13th district has always been in the shadow of Schönbrunn Palace and its gardens, but has interesting hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Allow half a day for the imposing Habsburg residence and the gardens with Gloriette belvedere. Reserve the other half to discover the secret charms of this posh residential neighbourhood. Sneak out of the gardens at Hietzinger Tor (Hietzing Gate) and head down Hietzinger Hauptstrasse for Kaiserpavillon (Emperor’s pavilion), an Art Nouveau gem right on top of U4’s metro railtracks. At local institutions Café Dommayer and restaurant Plachutta you can mingle with residents, their families and friends. Dommayer has risen to fame since waltz king Johann Strauss and his orchestra performed there regularly. If you want to go beyond private villa gazing visit Klimtvilla and Hermesvilla. Art Nouveau genius Gustav Klimt had his last studio in a now beautifully renovated villa, which is open during spring and summer. Hermesvilla at Lainzer Tiergarten animal enclosure and nature park is a must for all romantics and fans of Empress Sissi.
