So many reviews on this site make out that the Dorotheum is a sort of facinating pawn shop full of items to browse through and buy. It is NOT! it is a very upmarket auction house, similar to Christies or Bonhams. There are no bargains...More

The DOROTHEUM Palace is exciting in many ways. You can go there for auctions, you can buy jewellery or you go up to the second floor and enjoy coffee and a cake in the Dorotheum Café. Just a 5 minutes walk from St. Stephen's Cathedral.

If you love antiques, this auction house is not to be missed. It has so many beautiful items. We spent at least 2 hours here, and it was well worth it.

We loved visiting this auction house. Rick Steves had it right. It's like visiting a museum where you can actually buy what you see. What's more it is literally around the corner from the Hofburg and Graben, and you will be seeing those places anyway...More

Entering the Dorotheum is like entering another world. It is a very old auction house and has galleries of jewelry, paintings and all kinds of collectables. When I was there , there was a beautifully restored Mercedes Benz convertible that was to be auctioned soon....More
